9月29日,南京市理科双语教学高级研修班全体老师莅临南外方山分校交流研讨,学校国际高中物理学科周健博士、化学学科Craig老师、地理学科苏仕强博士、生物学科蔺荣欣老师分别作了精彩的主题分享,展示出了他们的教育教学风采。
On September 29th, all the science teachers of Bilingual Teaching Seminar of Nanjing visited NFLSFC to attend the workshop. NFLSFC’s International High School teachers Dr. Zhou Jian, physics teacher, Craig, chemistry teacher, Dr. Su Shiqiang, geography teacher, and Lin Rongxin, biology teacher gave wonderful presentations, showing their teaching styles.
化学
Craig老师分享了自己在英格兰GCSE化学学习体验,以及在中国讲授国际课程的体会。他主要讨论了国际科学课程和中文课程之间的差异。通过分析学生在学习国际理科课程时学习的技能和态度的现实案例,对现代国际教学法与传统教学法之间的差异进行了概括,并且剖析了IGCSE课程对学生的学习更有益处的原因。Craig老师解释了在课程中实施活动的原因,以及如何将其中一些活动纳入课程中,从而使课堂更具吸引力和互动性。他指出,正常的国际班课程应包含60%的活动,30%的老师讲解和10%的其他内容。这些活动包括小组讨论,互动游戏,实践实验,研究项目和海报等创意项目。Craig老师还阐述了国际学生应当具备的特点、态度,以及他们能够对教育保持积极态度的原因。最后,Craig老师提到了自己在英格兰读GCSE时的一些个人经历和学习技巧,他认为这可能有助于学生在考试中取得更好的成绩。这些技巧包括构建课堂笔记,制作记忆卡片,在问题中划出关键词,写出简洁答案以及其他能够取得高分的考试技巧。
Craig shared an insight into his knowledge of studying GCSE chemistry in England and teaching international science curriculum in China. He talked about the differences between International science curriculum and Chinese curriculum. Some of these examples included the skills and attitudes that students learn while studying an international science program. He also outlined several differences between Modern International teaching methods against traditional teaching methods and why they are more beneficial for student learning. Different activities were shown that are currently being used in his IGCSE Chemistry classes. He explained why and how some of these activities can be incorporated into other teacher’s lessons to make them more engaging and interactive. The presentation was used to explain that normal international classes should be broken up into 60% activities, 30% teacher lectures and 10% other. These activities included group discussion, interactive games, practical experiments, research projects and creative projects such as posters. The presentation also explained some of the traits and attitudes that international students should have and why they are positive in education. Finally, he mentioned some of his own personal experiences and tips from when he was a GCSE student in England that he thought may help students to do better in their exams. These tips involved structuring their class notes, making flash cards, underlining key words in questions, writing concise answers and other relevant exam tricks to obtain high marks.

He is from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England, United Kingdom and holds BSc. (Hons) in Chemistry from University of Huddersfield. He adheres to the idea of “creating fun, love and enjoyment for the subject” in order to shape curious and inquisitive minds for the children’s future. He believes knowing the answers will help the students in school. However, knowing how to question will help them in life.
物理
周健老师作了题为《从探究到研究:A level 物理实验卷中的启发》的主题分享。周老师以国家最近对高科技领域人才的需求作为引子,提出了进行实验研究对提高高中生科学探究素质的重要作用。同时引用了相应的研究,表明在课堂学习中更多的使用实践学习,能够提高知识留存率。通过对英国A level物理考试实验卷(试卷3和试卷5)的分析,发现考生应该具有的能力包括:实验设计和数据采集能力、结果展示能力、数据处理分析能力、提炼结论能力以及反思提高能力等。此外,周老师还通过举出几个在高一物理选修课教学中使用的案例,介绍了将这种以实践为主的教学方式合理应用于国内教材补充教学的经验。
Mr. Zhou made a presentation entitled “From investigating to researching: What I learnt from A level physics practical papers”. He used the country’s recent demand for high-tech talents as an introduction, showing the importance of experimental research in improving the quality of high school students’ scientific study. In his talk, he used related research to prove that more practical learning can increase the retention rate of knowledge. He said that students should acquire abilities of experimental design, data collection, result display, data processing and analysis and refining conclusions by analyzing A-level physics exam (paper 3 and paper 5). In addition, Mr. Zhou also shared experience of applying this practice-based teaching method to the supplementary teaching of domestic textbooks.

He is from Nanjing, Jiangsu province and graduated from the University of Houston with a PhD in geophysics. He teaches physics and has many years of teaching experience.

苏仕强老师做了题为:IGCSE Geography: Features and teaching methods的主题报告分享。他首先介绍了IGCSE地理的课程设置和考试特点,通过对比中国地理和IGCSE地理,提出IGCSE地理具有三个典型特征:注重发展学生探究性学习、重视案例研究、侧重培养学生的实践研究能力。根据IGCSE地理的特点,在教学课程中,学生要做好课前预习,克服词汇难关。课堂上,教师要合理的设置问题,引导学生探究学习,主动参与到讨论之中。课后要及时整理笔记并做好听写,结合练习册和往年试题,做好复习工作。
Mr. Su made a report entitled “IGCSE Geography: Features and teaching methods”. He first introduced the curriculum and examination characteristics of IGCSE geography. By comparing Chinese geography and IGCSE geography, he proposed that IGCSE geography has three typical characteristics: focusing on developing students’ inquiry learning, case studies, and cultivating students’ practical research ability. According to the characteristics of IGCSE geography, students should do a good job of preview to overcome difficulties. During the lesson, teachers should set up proper questions, guide students to explore and learn, and actively participate in discussions. After class, students must sort out their notes and dictation content, and review the workbook and papers.
苏仕强/地理教师
江苏连云港人。毕业于中国科学院大学,获地质学博士学位。教授高中地理,并担任中英班班主任。主张探究学习,激发学生探索自然人文地理奥秘。
He is from Lianyungang,Jiangsu province and he graduated from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences with a doctorate in geology. He is a senior high geography teacher and homeroom teacher for Sino-British class. He insists advocating inquiry learning and inspiring students to explore the mysteries of physical geography and human geography.

蔺荣欣老师做了题为“The Textbook Content Analysis of IGCSE Biology”的主题分享。她主要从四个方面进行了论述:首先是关于IGCSE Biology的简介,主要从考试时间、题型等方面进行介绍。其次是IGCSE Biology与国内的高中生物书的比较,主要在内容、难度、考试题型等方面进行具体分析。然后是课堂演示:以物质的运输为例,一步步引导学生自己得出结论,而非单纯给予结。最后是在IGCSE biology学习过程中,可以锻炼学生的逻辑思维能力,发现并解决问题的能力等。通过此次介绍,使大家初步了解了IGCSE Biology的课程与考试情况,以及与普通高中生物书相比的异同。
Ms. Lin gave a speech entitled "The Textbook Content Analysis of IGCSE Biology". She mainly discussed from four aspects. The first part is an introduction to IGCSE Biology, including examination time and question types. The second part is the comparison between IGCSE Biology and domestic high school biology in terms of content, difficulty, and test questions. The third part is a classroom demonstration. She took the transportation of materials as an example, guiding the students to draw their own conclusions instead of simply telling them. Finally, when learning IGCSE biology, students can develop their logical thinking ability and tackle challenges head-on. All the attendees had preliminary understanding of IGCSE Biology’s courses and examinations, as well as the similarities and differences of national biology teaching materials.

毕业于武汉大学发育生物学专业,获得硕士学位。教授生物课程,并担任中美班班主任,教导学生“生物来源于生活”,要擅长发现并将生物知识运用于生活。
She graduated from Wuhan University with a master degree in development biology. She is a biology teacher and homeroom teacher for Sino-American class, teaching students that “biology comes from life”. She thinks students should be good at discovering and applying biological knowledge to life.

Varied activities, wonderful life. NFLSFC’s International High School has organized a variety of activities to help foster students’ abilities. Besides the annual Science and Technology Festival, Sports Festival, Reading Festival, and Art Festival, IHS teachers also enrich the range of activities available to students, including PSHE, debate, drama, English Speech Competition, Dubbing Competition, inquiry-oriented learning, based on students’ own characteristics and interests.
